Beowolf: The Game

Scheduled for release in mid-November, Beowolf is a combat oriented fantasy adventure game in which you’ll assume the role of a legendary Geatish warrior. The game is based on the upcoming movie with the same name (minus the :the game) which is turn-based on an ancient and lengthy poem. The first level on Beowolf serves as an interactive tutorial. You play as Beowolf and you’re challenged to a race of sorts by a rival. Along the way you’ll learn how to shimmy along edges and climb walls. Also you’ll learn that Beowolf can slide down steep inclines without loosing his footing.

The race part of the tutorial ends on a beach inhabited by giant crabs.

And although no one appears to be keeping score you have to outdo your rival as the pair of you set about killing them. The controls on Beowolf should be uncomplicated so you should get used to them right away. Of course it’s not like just pushing random buttons when you come up against something more dangerous than just crabs. The three huge sea serpents that appear near the end of the first level will require all the skills you learned, plus a new one….carnal fury. Activating carnal fury sends Beowolf in a blind rage for a period of time. And the screen goes into a deep red color. Once again Beowolf is scheduled for release in mid-November.
