You must hit the notes. Hitting the notes scores points. But to hit the notes you have to have a microphone made for your PS2. The multiplayer or party mode has several games like head-to-head battle mode and Pass The Mic (Players take on different singing challenges). The singing challenges include singing medleys and hitting the notes to try to keep the bar up. The game is fun and really turns up the noise.
